30-60 Age Women group start obsessing about their workouts to stay young
If you thought being obsessed with your daily fitness routine meant a healthy lifestyle, then you are mistaken. Exercise addiction is a disorder, often working in conjunction with a more familiar eating disorder, such as anorexia or bulimia.
Working out at the gym everyday could lead to exercise addiction, according to a study. The flip side to this is called ‘exercise obsession’. Psychologists feel exercise addiction needs attention too. Running on a treadmill for hours and climbing stairs that lead nowhere, exercise addicts may have lost their physical, emotional and spiritual balance. To the common eye it may appear that these people are committed to good health but the scene is different.
These people have a fear of putting on weight and hence they push themselves too hard and end up injuring themselves.

Most fanatics are women aged between 36 to 60, who are afraid of aging in a youth –oriented society. Then they tend to over do their workout regime. “Exercise addiction is an eating disorder like anorexia and bulimia”, says Dr. Anjali Chabria, psychologist. “They aren’t willing to compromise on their workout schedule even if good jobs came to me to say that his wife works out for three to four hours a day and has no time to talk to him. Her fitness schedule is affecting their marital life.” Dr.Chabria also recalled a young girl who got upset with her mother’s fitness obsession. “ Every day when she wakes up in the morning she sees her mother take out all her dresses from the wardrobe, trying to fit into them,” says the psychologist. Deanne Pandey, Fitness expert, admits that exercise addiction is a problem in cities.
“The young crowd is hooked to Bollywood and Hollywood stars and the cities are also flooded with gyms,” says Pandey.
Exercise addiction is a disease of the mind, which needs to be treated.” Pandey says that the best way is to consult a psychologist and your fitness instructor.
